ABOUT ALONG FOR THE RIDE

The journey begins with future chart-topper “Winter,” which balances the icy regret and warm memory of lost love through Joe Barborich’s heartfelt guitar work and haunting melodies provided by Dave Lohr on pedal steel, Will Richardson on strings, and Kevin Glastonguay on keys only to lead us into drummer, John Richardson’s, night driving tempo for the searching stunner “Mr. Sun,” with golden backing vocals provided by Sara Renner.

Next up, scorching guitar hooks and the sultry tack piano of a western saloon carry us into a hip swaying rendition of the Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter classic “Loser.” From there, “Something to a Stranger,” makes a joyful dance of the bittersweet feeling of overcoming heartache.  This record then takes us for a ride down “Murray Avenue”, as we, the listeners find ourselves figuratively looking down from the summit of a hard-won life at the friends and lovers met along the way. From there, the album takes off on the track “Road Trip”, for a breezy midwestern psychedelic cruise along destiny’s highway, reflecting the hopeful optimism of taking a chance on big decisions and important relationships.

“Rucksack Revolution” pays a moody tribute to the Beat Generation with darkly hypnotic strumming by Barborich along side Lohr’s eerie pedal steel moans. As the notes fade, Drymalski then sets his own words aside to pay homage to mentor Neil Young with a touching cover of “Don’t Let it Bring You Down.” Carrying the torch of music activism ignited by influences Young and Peter Gabriel, Drymalski follows up with “Tree Song,” a defiant cry of pain against ecological destruction.

“Coming Down” takes us back out to the edge, probing uncertainty and fear through a stripped-down ballad that calls in our innermost resources inspired by the singer’s experiences at Standing Rock. We are then taken into the song “Slip Away” which carries a dream into the stormy challenges in which  life brings, as the songs protagonist finds themselve’s standing firm through the power of love and belief in oneself.

Rounding out the record is “More”.  A song which takes us out with a yearning for higher purpose and a striving to make the most of this fragile, wild life.

Produced by Steve Drymalski, Brad Matala, and Dave Lohr, with a mix provided by Niko Bolas, ALONG FOR THE RIDE is layered, moody, soaring, and inspirational rock at its finest. SunDown47 is a proud addition to the pantheon of morally informed male singer-songwriter music pioneered by Neil Young, John Mellencamp, and Peter Gabriel, while adding a timely perspective that’s entirely its own.
